 Their wives, husbands and families.

Some friends.

The trip took just over 2 hours drive from Queenstown a suburb near Port Adelaide.

Winifred Levi, wife of Bill (William) Levi, was driving the car through Hackham, (now a suburb but then a small country region) on the Main South Road, when she was pulled over by the local policeman, and told she was exceeding the speed limit, she had reached 17 miles per hour.

The Levi's often camped at Sellicks Beach and carved an area in the large cave to house the wash basin.  Many Levi names were carved on the walls and surrounding of the large cave, these have washed away with time, however the large face carved by Bill Levi is still to be seen.  It is to be noted that in the 1920's it was not a crime to do such carvings.

The Levi's continued to visit Sellicks during the 1930's until war brought on petrol restrictions and such trips became impossible so often.

Jim Levi (son of Bill Levi) continued to bring his own family to camp at Sellicks Beach in the late 1940's through to the mid 1950's.  By this time he had moved his campsite to what is now called Silver Sands (then still called part of Sellicks Beach) because of continual flooding of the camps by LEVI 'S ROCK.  In 1955 Jim Levi purchased a block of land at Sellicks Beach and built "his shack".  This was then extended and Jim and his wife Audrey retired there in 1974.

Cars are allowed to drive along the beach.

The Aldinga Bay was host to motor bike races during the 1950's.

Many Fishermen earnt a living at Aldinga Bay, one living in  a rough tin hut was on the foreshore at Sellicks Beach, another Mr Watson, also had a small shop in the now Bed and Breakfast at Summerville.  Honky Dory Nook Bed and Breakfast is owned by Nancy Levi and her daughter Ailie.

LOCATION

Levi's Rock is situated at the Southern end of Aldinga Bay, during low tide a section of the water line has a large area of rock pools.
